The NBA’s Leader in 3-Pointers Made: Ryan Anderson

At the beginning of the NBA season, if the questioned was proposed “who will be the leader in 3 pointers made?” popular opinion would be probably Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics or Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.  Allen and Curry are both exceptional three point gunners, with Ray Ray holding the throne of the ultimate three point crown, having the all-time record in 3-pointers made in NBA history. Allen has made 2,666 three pointers in his career, and counting.  However, to date this 2011-2012 NBA season, one man has stands alone head and shoulders above the pack, Orlando Magic 6’10″ forward-center Ryan Anderson.

Ryan Anderson has hit 87 three point shots to date in the NBA season, best in the league.  Anderson has 24 more three pointers than the two players tied for second most, 63 for Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks and 63 for Anthony Morrow of the New Jersey Nets.  Anderson has also been scoring his three point shots with a high level of efficiency, shooting 43.5% from downtown (87 for 200).  Ray Allen, always deadly from three point range, has made 54 three pointers this NBA season, shooting 49.1% from beyond the arc.  Stephen Curry, who finished in the NBA top ten last season in 3-point field goals made, with 151, has made only 37 this season, shooting 41.6% from 3-point land.  The Fact is Ryan Anderson has mad more three pointers (87) than Stephen Curry (37) and Kevin Love (46) combined. Numbers don’t lie, and three pointers are a vital fantasy basketball statistical category as well as a key to scoring in NBA basketball.

Ryan Anderson has come on strong this NBA season to lead the NBA in 3-point shots made, and averaging 16.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, .8 assists, .8 steals on top of the 3-pointers made per game are solid fantasy numbers. Anderson has shown that, at least fantasy basketball wise, there is more than one option to pick from the lineup playing for the Orlando Magic.  For daily fantasy basketball leagues Ryan Anderson is money for three point shots.

Today’s Best Fantasy Basketball Picks at Every Position

Today is Thursday, February 9th, 2012.  The NBA schedule is a short one, only 4 games, a good opportunity to cash in on daily fantasy basketball.  These players are the best options to help any fantasy team win at each position.

Kevin Durant is the best fantasy basketball player today at forward.  Not to say the Oklahoma City Thunder star is not the best fantasy basketball player every day, but today he is above all other days simply because of the competition.  Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are up against the wretched Sacramento Kings, one of the weakest teams in the NBA.  Durant is coming off back to back 30 point nights, and he had 33 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists in his last game, Tuesday (2/7/2012) against the Golden State Warriors.  Look for Kevin Durant to have a repeat dominant performance tonight against a truly inferior opponent, who has no answer what so ever to defending Kevin Durant.  For a daily fantasy basketball league pick Durant.

At the center position, today’s best pick is Golden State Warriors forward/center David Lee.  As a forward/center, his center eligibility and tonight’s short NBA schedule gives Lee the top notch spot at the center position.  The Golden State Warriors are playing the Denver Nuggets tonight, who are not exactly a scary defensive team.  Also, Danilo Gallinari, the Nuggets best player, is out tonight with a left ankle sprain.  The fact is David Lee’s quickness and size propose a constant match up problem for any team, and he is coming fresh off of a triple-double performance with 25 points,10 assists and 11 rebounds, this past Tuesday (2/7/2012) against the Oklahoma City Thunder.  David Lee is the best pick at center for daily fantasy basketball leagues today, no doubt about it.

At guard, today there is absolutely no question, but is there ever really a question? Kobe Bryant has been the best guard in all of NBA basketball for the last 10 years.  Not convinced? Reference 5 NBA Championships, 3 Scoring Titles, 2 NBA Finals MVP Awards, and an NBA MVP Award.  Kobe has averaged 29.3 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds a game.  He is the best guard in the NBA and today is no exception.  Fact is the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant are on the road against the Celtics tonight, and Kobe Bryant always elevates his game against a rival like Boston.  Bryant loves to take his show on the road, and Boston and New York are the 2 next cities that Kobe is gonna rock.  Pick Kobe Bryant today, and every day for the best option at guard for daily fantasy basketball leagues.

Today’s Top Fantasy Basketball Pick is LaMarcus Aldridge

The Portland Trail Blazers have been a pleasant surprise in the NBA’s western conference this season, standing at (13-9) wile winning 10 games at home against just one home loss thus far.  The Trail Blazers lost who the team believed was its best player, not to free agency or in a trade, but to retirement when star guard Brandon Roy retired due to nagging knee injuries.  Despite this blow, the team has had their biggest success in years, sitting as the current seventh seed in the western conference, ahead of the coveted Los Angeles Lakers.  Nobody saw that coming, especially without Brandon Roy. However, the biggest reason for the Portland Trail Blazer’s success has been their big man.  No not Greg Oden, who unfortunately has been plagued by injury ever since being drafted #1 overall by Portland, instead of Kevin Durant, and has not played a minute this season.  The big man I am referring to is LaMarcus Aldridge.

LaMarcus Aldridge is under rated, under the radar and is by far the best player on the Portland Trail Blazers. He’s the main reason they are having such success this NBA season.  LaMarcus Aldridge is averaging 23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block per game.  His leadership both in the locker room and on the defensive end has the entire Portland Trail Blazer team playing inspired basketball.  Jamal Crawford has been known for his explosive scoring potential and offensive prowess his entire career, but defense has never been Crawford’s forte.  Even the usually lax defense of Jamal Crawford has been raised to a higher level by the inspiring play of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Is LaMarcus Aldridge better than LeBron James? Absolutely not.  Not in the fantasy basketball realm and not in the real basketball world either.  However, today is Thursday, February the 2nd, and the Miami Heat are off tonight, but the Portland Trail Blazers are up against the abysmal Sacramento Kings, who are sitting at 6 wins and 15 losses, losers of 8 of their last 10 games.  The previous two match ups between these two western conference teams this season were both Portland Trail Blazer victories.  The Portland Trail Blazers winning 101-79 on December the 27th, 2011 and 101-89 with Portland winning again on January 23rd.  LaMarcus Aldridge scored 13 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished 5 assists in the last victory against the Kings, and back in December Aldridge scored 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and had 1 steal.  LaMarcus Aldridge has been the father of consistency this NBA season and this evening, against the weak match up of the Sacramento Kings, definitely pick up Aldridge for daily fantasy basketball leagues.

Kevin Love is a Better Fantasy Basketball Pick Than Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard is known as Superman of the NBA.  That must mean Kevin Love is Batman.  Love is averaging 25 points, 14 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1 steal and .6 blocks per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He is doing all of this while shooting over 80% from the free throw line compared to Dwight Howard’s meager 46% from the free throw line, that is a big difference.  Minnesota has a new favorite Kevin in town, Love is making it easy for Wolves fans to forget about Kevin Garnett. When Garnett had left the Minnesota a few years ago the town was crushed.  He also lead the Boston Celtics to the NBA championship in his first season departed from Minnesota, and helped Boston to two NBA finals appearances.  While that did sting Wolves fans for a while, Kevin Love has been better than neosporin for the open wound that other Kevin’s departure left behind.

Dwight Howard is averaging 20 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2 blocks a game for the Orlando Magic.  Excellent numbers, but if you add them all up and consider the fact that Dwight Howard hasn’t made a three pointer all season (he is 0/4 from downtown), Love is worth more fantasy points every night.  Kevin Love has made 39 three pointers this season.  Yes 39, and he is shooting 40% from beyond the arc.  Dwight Howard has made one three pointer his entire career, yes one!  Kevin Love is shooting a similar percentage from downtown (40%) to what Dwight Howard is shooting from the charity stripe (46%), numbers don’t lie.  Dwight Howard has missed three times as many free throws, 128, than Kevin Love has made 3-pointers.  This season, Dwight Howard is putting up free throw numbers that Shaq and Ben Wallace would cringe at.  Kevin Love was overlooked in the NBA draft a few seasons ago, and he wasn’t taken seriously when he started to come into his own last season.  Make no mistake about it, Kevin Love is more serious than a triple bypass, and he is probably good for a few triple doubles this season as well.  Don’t make the same mistake that four NBA teams made by passing up on Kevin Love when picking your daily fantasy basketball team.

Yes Dwight Howard is Superman, but he only plays center which limits his use.  Kevin Love is a forward-center, which offers more flexibility for a fantasy roster.  Like Batman’s utility belt, Kevin Love offers more versatility.  For a daily fantasy basketball league or for the long haul, it don’t get no better than Kevin Love at the forward position.   Batman was always cooler than Superman.
