Midseason NBA MVP

After a mind-numbingly boring All-Star Game, bloggers and columnists around the country are left with the inevitable first half of the season/predictions for second half column.  There have been several performers that have stood out, but at this point there’s only one true choice for MVP.  I hate to say it as much as anybody, but LeBron James is unquestionably the MVP.  James is averaging 27.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 6.8 assists.

Sure, there are other players with inflated stats.  Kevin Durant is making an awfully convincing case that he’s the best scorer in the league, but until he becomes a defensive powerhouse like LeBron, or develops James’ intimidating vision, he’ll always be a slight step behind.

Kevin Love has emerged as the best power forward in the game, and if you don’t believe me, Charles Barkley will tell you twenty times that he is.  Love’s efforts are being recognized more, and he’ll get an MVP trophy soon enough, but this isn’t the year for him.  His shaky defense and Minnesota’s lack of relevance will make it a nearly impossible task to beat out LeBron.

How is anybody supposed to beat LBJ?  He plays almost every position on the floor.  His transition game is the best in the NBA.  His defense is as good as any superstar’s in the league.  In the end, we’re all just nitpicking, criticizing LeBron for late game jitters.  It makes us feel better to remind ourselves that he’s human.  Sure, he isn’t clutch, and he’s as hate-able as any athlete around, but for now, in this regular season, nobody means as much to their team as LeBron does, and this is a team determined to shake the reputation that they can’t win the big one.

FanSaloon Mid-Week NBA Review

This week has been a very stressful one for daily fantasy NBA players. We have had players lose games to suspension and coaches deciding to rest stars. We’ve also had injuries, overtime games and a few blowouts. This has led daily fantasy owners to mix and match to try and find the best possible lineups.

The Nikola Pekovic experiment took a hit Monday when he cost daily fantasy players by only playing 15 minutes after spraining his ankle. Fantasy owners who have been depending on him because of his value were sent into an immediate tailspin and most came up short that evening.  Keep an eye on Wednesday’s lineups to see who picks up his minutes.

Jeremy Lin continues his impressive rise to stardom. I do think daily fantasy owners may want to take a hard look at him going forward as Carmelo Anthony will be looking to take over the scoring load, but I will definitely be keeping Lin in my daily fantasy basketball lineup.  Kyrie Irving has been showing why he was drafted first overall this year, as he has been hot of late. The same also goes for his teammate Antwan Jamison.  The future doesn’t look to bad in Cleveland, even without LeBron James.

Speaking of LeBron, he took a backseat to Dwayne Wade last night, who ended up with 52 daily fantasy points.  With the All-Star Game looming this weekend it is a great time for the real players and daily fantasy owners to take a break from the daily grind.  Remember to play daily basketball at FanSaloon.com and good luck!

FanSaloon NBA Daily Fantasy Rewind

Last night was a very very productive night for daily fantasy NBA. We had several high scoring nights which meant good high scoring games at FanSaloon.com.

Kobe Bryant put up a ridiculous 58 daily fantasy points last night. On most nights that is enough to carry a daily fantasy team to victory, but not on Friday. That is because there were many, many more high scoring performances Friday night. Dwight Howard topped the 50 point daily fantasy scoring mark with 51. Minnesota Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic had 49 daily fantasy points, 2 behind Howard but a better value because he is about $8,500 cheaper according to FanSaloon.com. So if you were able to get Kobe and Pekovic last night, you were in good shape.

Kevin Love also topped the 50 point daily fantasy mark again with 51, so that was 100 total daily fantasy point between the two Minnesota big men. Dirk Nowitzki and LeBron James both topped the 40 point mark with 41 and 40 respectively. Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince were good value plays both getting 81 total fantasy points (41 and 40) between them.

Many players scored in the mid to high 30s, making it a huge fantasy NBA night. Gustavo Ayon had a good night for a value player, as did Corey Brewer, Marco Belinelli, and Jeremy Lin, who continues to be a good value. Only four NBA games Saturday but that makes daily fantasy picks at FanSaloon.com a little more simple. Good luck!!!

The NBA’s Leader in 3-Pointers Made: Ryan Anderson

At the beginning of the NBA season, if the questioned was proposed “who will be the leader in 3 pointers made?” popular opinion would be probably Ray Allen of the Boston Celtics or Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.  Allen and Curry are both exceptional three point gunners, with Ray Ray holding the throne of the ultimate three point crown, having the all-time record in 3-pointers made in NBA history. Allen has made 2,666 three pointers in his career, and counting.  However, to date this 2011-2012 NBA season, one man has stands alone head and shoulders above the pack, Orlando Magic 6’10″ forward-center Ryan Anderson.

Ryan Anderson has hit 87 three point shots to date in the NBA season, best in the league.  Anderson has 24 more three pointers than the two players tied for second most, 63 for Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks and 63 for Anthony Morrow of the New Jersey Nets.  Anderson has also been scoring his three point shots with a high level of efficiency, shooting 43.5% from downtown (87 for 200).  Ray Allen, always deadly from three point range, has made 54 three pointers this NBA season, shooting 49.1% from beyond the arc.  Stephen Curry, who finished in the NBA top ten last season in 3-point field goals made, with 151, has made only 37 this season, shooting 41.6% from 3-point land.  The Fact is Ryan Anderson has mad more three pointers (87) than Stephen Curry (37) and Kevin Love (46) combined. Numbers don’t lie, and three pointers are a vital fantasy basketball statistical category as well as a key to scoring in NBA basketball.

Ryan Anderson has come on strong this NBA season to lead the NBA in 3-point shots made, and averaging 16.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, .8 assists, .8 steals on top of the 3-pointers made per game are solid fantasy numbers. Anderson has shown that, at least fantasy basketball wise, there is more than one option to pick from the lineup playing for the Orlando Magic.  For daily fantasy basketball leagues Ryan Anderson is money for three point shots.

Greg Monroe is a Better Fantasy Basketball Pick than Al Jefferson

Fantasy Basketball is a game of numbers, and numbers don’t lie.  Many fantasy owners have been foaming at the mouth over the play of Al Jefferson this NBA season.  The starting center for the Utah Jazz has been good, averaging 18.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 blocks per game, solid numbers for a starting fantasy basketball center.  Greg Monroe is the starting center for the Detroit Pistons, and he is currently averaging 16.5 points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and .5 blocks per game.  In just his sophomore NBA season, Monroe has become a double-double machine, scoring 20+ and grabbing 10+ rebounds in two out of the last three games for the Pistons.  Monroe is improving every game and his fantasy basketball stock is going up.

Daily Fantasy Basketball owners should pick Greg Monroe when looking for a center to put up big numbers, as a somewhat sleeper.  Higher priced picks could be used for Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Kevin Durant or Kevin Love.  Monroe will put up top 5 fantasy basketball numbers at the center position, and can be picked up for much cheaper, let the bigger name centers go to other teams.  More popular players like Andrew Bynum, Al Jefferson, Marc Gasol, Roy Hibbert and Tyson Chandler will all under achieve in comparison to Monroe.  Greg Monroe also plays for the abysmal Detroit Pistons, therefore he will be playing plenty of garbage time, mopping up the boards, and getting some extra points.

Facts are facts, and while maybe garbage time is not so good for an actual NBA franchise or NBA player, for a fantasy owner only statistics matter.  A fantasy player’s team winning games means nothing to a fantasy owner, the only things that matters are stats, and however the fantasy player racks up those fantasy points doesn’t matter.  Bottom line is Greg Monroe is the right stock to invest in for daily fantasy basketball leagues.   Greg Monroe is a penny stock that will pay off dividends.
