Giants Vs. Cowboys: Survival Of The Unfitted

In a season where many “experts” forecasted  “The Dream Team” Eagles  to take The NFC East by storm the real focus has been not on who’s been dominate, but rather who can survive.. The Eagles struggled early starting off 4-8 before reeling off three straight wins, The Cowboys all but had the division in Week 14 until Eli Manning took over and scored 2 TD’s in the final 3:14 to stun the Boys’; The Giants proceeded to lose to The Redskins the next week… O what a long, strange year it’s been for The NFC East.

Although it hasn’t been pretty, it has produced awfully exciting football and this Sunday Nights Matchup with The Division Title on the line should be more of the same. The Cowboys and Giants don’t like each other, they are archrivals after all and I full heartedly expect a bloodbath out there, no holds barred. The significance of this game should not be overlooked by the rest of the league who see two struggling teams limping into the playoffs because as we’ve seen with many teams before, once the playoffs start it’s not about records it’s about skill. Both these teams are stacked with skill and that’s why I’m going to take a look at the 6 players that will make the biggest impact on this Sunday’s Showdown in The Meadowlands.

6.) Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys- The “lazy but talented” receiver has blossomed this season into a big play threat. Him and Romo have connected for 9 TD’s and is on pace for 1000 yards receiving. Since this game will be taken seriously (unlike many week 17 games) I would start Dez with confidence, He should give you good fantasy value as his speed is a game-changer.

5.)Giants Defense- I know the defense isn’t a player but The Giants D has been so atrocious this entire season that I hold the whole squad responsible (Except you Jason Pierre-Paul: You’re a beast see video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmtByXfMdvk). Last week vs. The Jets the defense did bend, but unlike most of the year they refused to break and kept Mark Sanchez uncomfortable all day long. If they can replicate that performance they’ll give Eli Manning and Co. a good shot at winning this game for The Giants.

4.) Victor Cruz,WR, New York Giants- Despite appearing to be lobbying for a spot on “Dancing With The Stars” the salsa dancing wideout has exploded onto the scene this year setting the Giants record for most yards for a receiver in a season (1358 yards with a game left). Look for Cruz to be a big target for Eli and if this week’s game is anything like the 37-34 game these two teams played last time expect Cruz to put up big fantasy points and make his mark on the final result.

3.)Tony Romo,QB, Dallas Cowboys- There’s been rumors spiraling that Romo and Head Coach Jason Garrett are on the hot seat, a lose in week 17 could mean a clearing of the house for a team with high expectations. Romo is struggling with an injured throwing hand so it’ll be interesting to see if he’s at 100% this weekend. If Romo doesn’t play well I don’t think the Cowboys will have a chance in this one, he has to deliver a big game to match the wits of Eli Manning.

2.) Demarcus Ware, OLB, Dallas Cowboys- The pass-rushing extraordinaire could be the game changer in this one. If he’s able to pressure Eli and keep him from getting settled in the pocket this could decide the outcome. Ware has 18 sacks on the year (2nd in the NFL), expect him to get a few this week and maybe put a shot or two on Eli, if he’s effective this could alter Eli for the entire game, Ware’s presence alone could drastically change the environment of the passing game for The Giants.

1.) Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants- In “The Year of the QB” Eli has been stellar. Eli has single handedly won the Giants countless games this year with his late game heroics and expect more of that this week. In the biggest games shine the biggest stars and I expect Eli to take this game over and win it for his team. If your league is still running he’s a lock for fantasy points and is a must start.

My Prediction: Giants 31-Cowboys 21

A big day for The Giants offense overcomes errors by their secondary and The Home team walks away with the division title.

Agree? Disagree? Let me Know!

PROJECTED TOP 5 FANTASY QUARTERBACKS HEADING INTO WEEK 17

THIS IS IT, WEEK 17.  THE FINAL REGULAR SEASON WEEK BEFORE THE PLAYOFFS.  FOR MANY NFL TEAMS THIS MEANS DO OR DIE.  FOR SOME NFL TEAMS THIS MEANS RESTING PLAYERS FOR THE POST SEASON.  WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS MEAN TO FANTASY OWNERS?  IT MEANS PAY ATTENTION.

5) PHILIP RIVERS.  RIVERS IS HAVING A BAD YEAR, BUT EVERY DECEMBER RIVERS KICKS IT INTO GEAR AND THIS YEAR IS NO DIFFERENT.  RIVERS IS ALSO PLAYING FOR THE CHARGERS VERY PLAY OFF LIVES, OR PRAYERS.  THE CHARGERS NEED A WIN AND A LOSS BY DENVER TO MAKE THE POST SEASON.  ADD THE CHARGERS PERSONAL AGENDA WITH THE FACT THAT RIVERS AND THE CHARGERS ARE PLAYING THE OAKLAND RAIDERS, WHO JUST A FEW SHORT WEEKS AGO ALLOWED NOT EXACTLY ALL PRO MATT MOORE AND THE DISMAL MIAMI DOLPHINS TO PUT UP 34 POINTS, AND RIVERS SHOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY. START RIVERS.

4) DREW BREES.  DREW BREES IS A NO BRAINER FOR TOP OVERALL FANTASY QUARTERBACK SPOT EVERY WEEK.  HE BROKE DAN MARINO’S ALL TIME PASSING RECORD THIS SEASON.  BUT THIS WEEK HE IS “ONLY” 4TH OVERALL.  IF THE SAINTS ARE AHEAD, OR IT BECOMES EVIDENT THAT THE SAINTS HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN, BREES COULD SIT DOWN AND REST FOR THE PLAY OFFS.  BUT EVEN 2 QUARTERS OF DREW BREES IS BETTER THAN ALMOST ANY OTHER NFL QUARTERBACK.

3) KYLE ORTON.  SURPRISE, SURPRISE! THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS WILL PLAY THE DENVER BRONCOS THIS SUNDAY, THE TEAM THAT CUT ORTON BEFORE HE LANDED IN KANSAS CITY.   THE FACT IS KYLE ORTON THREW FOR 300 YARDS EACH OF HIS LAST TWO GAMES AGAINST OAKLAND AND GREEN BAY, AND KYLE ORTON DEFEATED THE UNDEFEATED SUPERBOWL CHAMPION PACKERS JUST 2 WEEKS AGO.  THE FACT IS KYLE ORTON WILL BE PLAYING WITH A CHIP ON HIS SHOULDER THIS SUNDAY, BEING THAT HE WAS THE STARTING QUARTERBACK FOR THE BRONCOS AT THE START OF THE SEASON.  ORTON WAS RUN OUT OF DENVER AND CUT FROM THE ROSTER AND TIM TEBOW HAS TAKEN OVER AND IS TAKING THE BRONCOS TOWARDS THE PLAYOFFS, UNLESS ORTON AND THE CHIEFS CAN PLAY SPOILER.  NOW WHAT WOULD MOTIVATE KYLE ORTON MORE THAN SPOILING HIS REPLACEMENTS AND FORMER TEAMS PLAYOFF HOPES.  THE BRONCOS DEFENSE IS TOUGH, BUT ORTON KNOWS IT IN AND OUT.  KYLE ORTON IS A LOCK FOR 300 YARDS AND AT LEAST 2 TOUCHDOWNS.

2) CAM NEWTON.  CAM NEWTON IS NOT PLAYING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT.  THE CAROLINA PANTHERS CAN’T SPOIL ANYTHING FOR THEIR DIVISION RIVAL NEW ORLEANS SAINTS.  THE FACT IS CAM NEWTON IS GOOD FOR 300 YARDS AT LEAST 1 PASSING TOUCHDOWN AND 1 RUSHING TOUCHDOWN.  THIS WEEK WILL BE A BIG SHOW FOR NEWTON PLAYING FOR PRIDE.  A SHOOT OUT BETWEEN NEWTON AND BREES.  WHAT COULD BE MORE ENTERTAINING.

1) ELI MANNING.  ELI MANNING AND THE NEW YORK GIANTS WILL PLAY THE DALLAS COWBOYS IN THE FINAL GAME OF THE 2011 NFL REGULAR SEASON THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AT 8PM ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.  THIS IS A DO OR DIE GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS.  THE WINNER WILL BECOME NFC EAST DIVISION CHAMPIONS AND CONTINUE ON TO THE PAYOFFS, AND THE LOSER GOES HOME TO FART INTO A COUCH CUSHION UNTIL TRAINING CAMP.  ELI MANNING HAS THROWN FOR OVER 4000 YARDS EACH OF THE LAST TWO SEASONS AND ELI MANNING HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIG GAME QUARTERBACK.  THE GIANTS ALWAYS SEEM TO BEAT THE COWBOYS IN THESE BIG GAMES AND ELI SEEMS TO HAVE THE COWBOYS NUMBER SINCE THEY BEAT THEM IN THE 2007-08 NFL PLAYOFFS ON THE WAY TO THEIR SUPERBOWL VICTORY IN FEBRUARY OF 2008.  THESE TWO QUARTERBACKS ARE POLAR OPPOSITES IN MY OPINION.  TONY ROMO SEEMS TO BE REALLY GOOD FOR THE FIRST THREE QUARTERS OF A GAME AND THE FIRST THREE QUARTERS OF A SEASON, AND ROMO SEEMS TO ALWAYS CHOKE IN THE BIG SPOTLIGHT.  ELI MANNING SEEMS TO EXCEL IN BIG GAME SCENARIOS.  ELI EXCELS IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.  ELI EXCELS IN THE PLAYOFFS.  THIS GAME WILL BE NO DIFFERENT.  LOOK FOR ELI MANNING TO THROW FOR 300 YARDS PLUS AND THREE TOUCHDOWNS.  ELI IS A DEFINITE TOP GUN THIS WEEK.

FanSaloon Fantasy Football Sleepers for Week 17 to Help Ring In the New Year

Happy New Year! 2012 is right around the corner, and we wanted to help you cash in on the final week of NFL regular season with our fantasy sleeper picks for Week 17. Be sure to pick your Fantasy Football Team at FanSaloon.com.

Quarterback

Joe Webb ($4,501) vs. Chicago Bears – The Vikings’ season is over, and they’ll likely sit Christian Ponder (concussion) and see what Joe Webb can do. Webb has been taking snaps under center the last few weeks, and he gets rushing yards as well as some passing yardage. What I also like about Webb is that he’s done a good job of finishing drives with touchdowns (second half last week he scored three). At his dirt cheap price, he’s almost a no-brainer to pick for the last week of the season.

Running Backs

Kahlil Bell ($2,909) at Minnesota Vikings – We are picking Kahlil Bell as a sleeper pick for the second week in a row. Last week Bell rushed for 121 yards and tacked on another 38 receiving yards. As long as Bell starts, get him now. He should have a field day against the Vikings, who were torched by Evan Royster last week. And because of his low price, you will have plenty of room to add some superstars on your roster.

C.J. Spiller ($5,359) at New England Patriots – Spiller has been a steal for teams the last two weeks, and now is the time to shine for the former 1st round draft pick. He is up against a defense that struggles to keep opponents out of the endzone. Lately, Spiller has turned in some highlight reel runs, and has touchdowns in his last two games. Pick him knowing that even though the Patriots will probably win, Buffalo will come up with their fair share of points.

Wide Receivers

DeSean Jackson ($6,053) vs. Washington Redskins – I know DeSean Jackson is somewhat of a household name, and you may not necessarily think of him as a fantasy sleeper pick, but he hasn’t been his productive self this NFL season. However, Jackson seems to be toning down his off the field antics, as he’s still looking for that new contract. He’s also extremely affordable, and look for the Eagles to go out strong against the Redskins, as the players continue to fight hard to save Andy Reid’s job.

Dwayne Bowe ($7,675) at Denver Broncos – Dwayne Bowe is another “Pro Bowl” type talent, but until last weeks’ game-tying score against the Raiders, he hadn’t scored a touchdown since week 5. In his defense, having Tyler Palko as his quarterback for a month didn’t help, but at least he has Kyle Orton to finish the year. Orton will be looking to knock his former team out of the playoff hunt, and Bowe should be his primary target.

Tight End

Evan Moore ($2,730) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers – Since Benjamin Watson (concussion) was placed on IR, Moore has been the starting TE for the Cleveland Browns. Last week he caught 5 passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder has red zone reliability and was aided by Seneca Wallace under center. Colt McCoy is questionable to start this week, but even if he does look for Moore to be targeted often against the Steelers D which has only been average against defending the tight end position this season.

Defense/Special Teams

Indianapolis Colts ($3,955) – Yep, the lowly Colts is our sleeper pick for this week against the miserable Jacksonville Jaguars. They may outscore the Jaguars defense in fantasy land considering Jacksonville has been bit by the injury bug as of late. Remember the Colts did put up 7 points in the first meeting, and Jacksonville’s offense has looked even worse since then. Also, the Colts’ defense has been hot recently putting up 24 points combined in their back-to-back winning efforts.
